2020 KCPE Candidates Set to Join Form One in July 2021, Ministry of Education Says.

 The Ministry of Education has announced Form One placement of the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates will take place in July 2021.

The more than one million KCPE candidates did the last examination paper on Wednesday, March 24, and will now wait until July 26, 2021, to join secondary schools. Speaking in Nakuru on Wednesday, Early Learning and Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan said the government was targeting 100% transition adding every one of the candidates had the basic right of high school education. 

While at the subject, the PS also warned school principals against extorting money from parents warning those found in contravention of his directive will face disciplinary action. He also said no major incidents were reported as the KCPE exams came to a close across the country. The 1, 187, 517 candidates began their tests on Monday, March 22, after nearly a year of a disrupted school calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rehearsals for the national exams were done across the country on Friday, March 19, with COVID-19 containment measures like sanitisation and social distancing being put in place ahead of the exercise. Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha had warned students against using their face masks as "mwakenyas" warning that any learner found cheating would face dire consequences. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates will commence their written exams on March 25 and finish on April 21, 2021.
